The customer requested a combined solar PV, battery storage and EV charging installation for a detached property in Norton Malreward. Survey requirements included a tethered Simpson & Partners EV charger, Solis inverter equipment and additional battery storage. During post-installation operation, poor Wi-Fi coverage in the garage and charger area was identified, although the charger remained connected and operational. A later revisit was also required to replace the inverter under warranty and confirm the correct 6 kW inverter configuration.

Diagnosis & Technical Assessment

Initial survey work assessed the property’s electrical supply, roof construction, inverter location, cable routes and access requirements for the planned installation. The property was confirmed to be single-phase, with a pitched concrete tile roof supported by pre-formed trusses. Roof inspection recorded intact bitumen felt, a west-facing orientation and no obvious shading or roof condition issues affecting installation.

The installation design included additional fuse boards powered from Henley blocks to separate battery and solar systems from EV charging infrastructure. AC cabling was specified as 6 mm NYYJ with clipped direct containment and 25 mm black PVC conduit. DC cabling was specified as 4 mm with an estimated 16 m AC run recorded during survey assessment.

The inverter location was designated within the garage area, with scaffold access and tower access required for the AC cable route and roof installation works. Following commissioning, a recall visit identified the installed inverter required replacement under warranty. Technical support communication with Solis confirmed the inverter’s operational performance following the inverter replacement and final commissioning checks.

Solutions delivered

The completed works included the installation of the roof-mounted solar PV system, battery storage equipment, and the Simpson & Partners EV charging system. Two additional fuse boards were installed beside the existing meter cabinet to separate solar and battery circuits from EV charging infrastructure. Fuse board integration was completed using Henley block connections in line with the surveyed installation approach.

Garage-mounted inverter equipment was installed and configured alongside battery storage systems and associated AC and DC cabling routes. The customer was connected to both the Solis monitoring platform and the Simpson & Partners EV charging application following system commissioning. EIC documentation, PV documentation and SafetyCulture records were uploaded following completion.

A later warranty revisit replaced the inverter with the specified 6 kW model. The original inverter was labelled faulty in accordance with recorded instructions. Following replacement, the system was recommissioned, checked with Perry Williams and confirmed operational through Solis technical support verification.

Outcome & Results

Following commissioning, a recall visit identified the installed inverter required replacement with the specified 6 kW model. Replacement was selected instead of adjustment because the recorded instruction specified removal of the incorrect inverter configuration and installation of the correct inverter unit. Final recommissioning and technical verification confirmed that the replacement equipment was operating as intended within the completed system configuration.
