Customer report

The customer requested the installation of an electrical supply for a garden shed at a residential property in Bristol. The quoted works included the installation of armoured cable, a switched-fused spur, surface boxes, double sockets, and IP65 bulkhead lighting, all connected to a dedicated electrical supply arrangement. The installation scope also included an out-house distribution board, RCBO protection components and associated cabling routed between the property and external structure.

Diagnosis & Technical Assessment

The electrical installation works included routing and preparation of a dedicated garden shed electrical supply using 3-core SWA cable and Cat6 cabling connected into the distribution board arrangement. Installation observations recorded that the SWA cable was run and cleated along the fence line with the Cat6 cable glanded into the DB. An MCB was fitted within the DB during the first stage of the installation sequence.

The electrical scope included the installation of a dedicated out-house DB, together with RCBO-protected circuits, socket outlets, and external lighting. The quoted electrical configuration referenced armoured cable, SWA gland packs, cable cleats, switched-fused spur equipment, double sockets, and IP65 bulkhead lighting components. The electrical arrangement also included a 100A main switch and RCBO protection devices associated with the completed distribution setup.

During the revisit stage, the remaining installation works were completed, including the out-house DB, two double sockets and the bulkhead lighting supplied through the garage arrangement. Technician notes confirmed that all work was completed and that photographs were uploaded following completion.

Solutions delivered

The completed electrical works included installation of a dedicated garden shed electrical supply using 4.0 mm 3 Core PVC SWA XLPE armoured cable routed externally and cleated along the fence line. Cat6 cabling was installed in the DB arrangement as part of the completed electrical infrastructure.

The installation included the fitting of an out-house DB, together with MCB- and RCBO-protected distribution equipment, to support the external power supply arrangement. Two double sockets were installed and supplied through the out-house DB, together with an IP65 bulkhead light controlled by a one-gang switch supplied from the outhouse garage arrangement.

The selected electrical configuration used SWA cable, gland packs, RCBO protection devices and externally rated electrical accessories to support the garden shed supply installation. The staged installation process included initial cable routing and DB preparation, followed by final termination and completion during the revisit appointment.

Tools, Parts & Systems Used

  • 4.0 mm 3 Core PVC SWA XLPE armoured cable
  • Out house DB
  • IP65 bulkhead with built-in 12 W LED tray
  • 2 gang double sockets
  • RCBO protection devices

Outcome & Results

The garden shed electrical supply installation was marked complete following installation of the out-house DB, socket outlets and external lighting arrangement. Two double sockets and the bulkhead lighting system were supplied through the completed DB installation. Photographs were uploaded following completion, and certification activity was referenced as part of the completed electrical works process.

Repair vs Replacement

This project involved installing a new external electrical supply arrangement rather than replacing an existing system. The completed works combined SWA cable installation, dedicated distribution equipment, socket outlets, and external lighting into a single integrated garden shed electrical supply setup. The staged installation process allowed the cable routing, DB preparation and final termination works to be completed across separate visits. The final configuration included RCBO-protected distribution equipment, external-rated accessories and dedicated socket and lighting circuits connected through the completed out-house DB arrangement.
